“Now is the Time to Deliver on Health Care”

Former Superstar Scorches Fractured Franchise

Emmitt Smith: “I never saw Romo go snatch somebody up, and say, 'Hey, we can't win like this. We can't have guys jumping offsides. I can't have a defender coming at me unabated. Who is making the mistakes up front? Why aren't you picking this guy up? This is not going down this way. If you can't get your job done, get off the football field.”

“So when … you say things are going to change, and you've never been that dominant personality or in that leadership position then, as a player, you lose me. I'm sitting there saying, 'OK, now you're going to become a leader?' What happened in previous playoff seasons when we got knocked out both times?”

“Now all of a sudden, you're going to change? And our talent level is less than it was two years ago. How much better can we be? Phillips should instill discipline from day one. Belichick and Coughlin don't come in trying to make friends. Matter of fact, they created a bunch of enemies and then made the enemies get on their terms, and then they moved forward. And that's one thing I believe the Dallas Cowboys can use.”

NEW RULE

Americans should graze conversation.

With health as a rationale, Americans consume smaller meals. They should consume smaller conversations. E-mail, Facebook, and Twitter are invaluable inventions. However, extensive intrapersonal communication is a necessity. Do not call as an interruption. Do not e-mail as a convenience.

Zero Option

On Monday, the Detroit Lions chose a quarterback. Matthew Stafford is their starter. The Lions are an inferior franchise. Stafford requires experience. While this choice is expedient, this choice is perilous. Ineptitude can enfeeble a rookie.

NEW RULE

The bible is unedited.

The New International Version Bible will be updated. Child of God will supplant Man of God. Seriously? Americans do not update the Bill of Rights. We do not update the Constitution. Patriots, Raiders Reorganize Cores

Since 2003, the Oakland Raiders have acquired DeAngelo Hall, LaMont Jordan, Randy Moss, Warren Sapp, Javon Walker, and Gerard Warren. They have amassed a 24-72 record. Superstars cannot supersede inept management.

On Sunday, the New England Patriots traded Richard Seymour to the Raiders. As reciprocation, the Patriots received a first round selection. “Any transaction we make is with the goal of what is best for our team and, as difficult as it is to part ways with a player of Richard's stature, many factors were taken into account when we considered this trade,” said Patriots Coach Bill Belichick. “As an organization, we feel the trade with Oakland brings sufficient value and is in the long-term interest of the club. We are extremely grateful for the huge impact Richard's elite level of performance had on our success and we wish him the very best during the rest of his career.”

Raiders defensive end Greg Ellis’ reaction was optimistic. “It shows the commitment of this organization,” he said. “You can't guarantee we're going to have a great, great season this year. But the commitment is definitely there so players don't have to question that when you're making those kinds of moves to make something happen and hopefully win right now.”

During his career, Seymour has amassed 357 tackles and 39 sacks. Last season, he registered 52 tackles and 8 sacks. “From nearly the day he arrived in 2001, Richard Seymour established himself as one of our premier players for nearly a decade,” said Belichick. “His presence has been felt as a force on the field, a respected man off it and a multiyear champion.”

In this offseason, the Patriots have acquired Joey Galloway, Shawn Springs, and Fred Taylor. They have jettisoned Tedy Bruschi, Rosevelt Colvin, Heath Evans, Jabar Gaffney, Ellis Hobbs, Rodney Harrison, Deltha O'Neal, Junior Seau, Seymour, and Mike Vrabel. The Patriots reorganization is both intriguing and perilous.
