Number One (Except In Class)

On Monday, Martin Truex Jr. won the Autism Speaks 400. Truex’s initial victory was both altruistic and selfish. His victory benefited Teresa Earnhardt, Max Siegel, and Dale Earnhardt Incorporated (DEI). His celebration insulted NASCAR.

During his parade lap, crew chief Kevin Manion admonished Truex. “Bill France Jr. died at 1 p.m. this afternoon. Don’t forget him in your victory speech.” After a champagne dousing, Truex answered several questions. France was never mentioned. Truex congratulated himself. He discussed his situation. He never acknowledged the diseased.

Following Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s announcement, Truex was besieged. What was his future? What was his opinion of Teresa? Truex shunned the tumult. He embraced leadership. He would advance DEI. He would silence the critics.

Obviously, Truex should enjoy victory. For Teresa and Siegel, his win was monumental. With that stated, America’s youth is arrogant. Truex epitomizes the aforesaid. Anyone believe Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Mark Martin, or Tony Stewart would have forgotten France?
