Pakistan in Peril

On Saturday, Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf imposed “emergency measures.” Troops were deployed. Opponents were arrested. The Chief Justice was fired. Phone lines were sliced. The constitution and independent media were suspended. Musharraf’s actions are disturbing. Simply stated, he must relent. He must ease restrictions. He cannot both support and oppose democracy.
