Goodell Bans Vick
Concerning training camp, Michael Vick has been uninvited. On Monday, Commissioner Roger Goodell banned the quarterback. “While it is for the criminal justice system to determine your guilt or innocence, it is my responsibility as commissioner of the National Football League to determine whether your conduct, even if not criminal, nonetheless violated league policies, including the Personal Conduct Policy," Goodell said.
Goodell’s decision is correct. Since Tuesday, Senators Robert Byrd (D-WV) and John Kerry (D-MA), People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, and the Humane Society have condemned Vick. Vick’s actions were reprehensible. They embarrassed the NFL. They embarrassed his franchise. This season, Vick would have been an asterisk. Thankfully, he is now irrelevant.
