Officially, Laguna Beach has been rebranded. Henceforth, Newport Harbor is the Real Orange County. According to Executive Producer Tony DiSanto, difference was required. “We'd seen all the locations in Laguna, all the hangouts,” DiSanto said. “Newport offers something new and different. The boating, the coastline, the homes. You have a different flavor when you watch the show.”

Following Laguna Beach’s second season, Kristin Cavallari, Stephen Colletti, and Lauren Conrad departed. Predictably, ratings declined. Given the aforesaid, MTV’s strategy is bizarre. Viewers abhor cast modification. MTV, why repeat fiasco?
