Turner Strikes

My opinions concerning A.J. Smith and Dean Spanos have been articulated. They will not be rescinded, revoked, or modified. They will not be altered or amended. My judgment remains as stated. Smith and Spanos are morons for firing Marty Schottenheimer.

With that stated, Norv Turner is an excellent hire. Despite his 59-83-1 career ledger, Turner is a competent coach. He has twice been the unfortunate victim of egomaniacal owners. In 2000, Daniel Snyder ambushed him. Turner was fired despite a winning record. His Oakland tenure cannot be counted. He was simply persecuted subject to Al Davis’ whims.

Turner is a superb offensive tactician. He masterminded consecutive Dallas Cowboys championships. He is obviously superior to Dave Wannstedt. Wannstedt coached both the Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins. Guiding San Diego’s talent, Turner should excel.

Turner is not perfect. Schottenheimer’s resume includes two hundred wins and thirteen playoff appearances. Turner’s includes a single postseason. However, Turner has proven he can survive both difficult circumstances and ownership. Given San Diego’s twin twits, his skill set is apt.
