On Thursday, the NFL announced London will host a 2007 regular season contest. The clash will feature the New York Giants and Miami Dolphins. The match will be the NFL’s second non-American contest in three seasons.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell advocates regular season foreign city contests. Likely, his intention is fan base development. However, I believe he is misguided. Europeans enjoy soccer and tennis. They have not embraced football. The NFL should accept this.

Goodell’s model is the NBA. However, they have ceased foreign excursions. Additionally, basketball is an Olympic sport. Football is an American invention. Preseason encounters are one matter. Games which count should occur before fans who care.
