Missing a parent teacher conference criminal? Texas is mulling law which would convict “offenders” of a third degree misdemeanor and fine them $500. According to state legislator and bill sponsor Wayne Smith, "the concept is to get parents in the classroom."

Smith’s goal is laudable. However, this paper law is an abomination.
