Mike, Mistakes, Monkeys, & the Morning Show

This morning, ESPN radio’s Mike Greenberg asserted that the pre-Championship of criticism of Rex Grossman and Peyton Manning was not unwarranted. He is slightly incorrect. Prior to his victory, Manning was chided as incapable of winning the big game. Prior to his victory, Grossman was lamented as unstable. On Sunday, both shattered those stereotypes, thereby shedding caricatures which were ridiculously unfair.

Both Greenberg and co-host Mike Golic also said Reggie Bush’s celebration inspired the Chicago Bears’ defense. This opinion is provably false. Trailing 16-14, the New Orleans Saints maneuvered into Chicago territory. Only a drop and an incompletion halted their momentum. Four turnovers and no running game doomed the Saints. Not Bush.

Despite these misstatements, the Mike & Mike Show featured a brilliant piece of production. The piece, which concerned a monkey leaving Peyton Manning’s back, concluded with “I could go to Eli, but that’s not fair. So I guess I’ll just go home and spank myself.”
